Young couple trial runs parenthood by acquiring a pet

Citizens, 

Today as young Kolya marched to school he encountered a new sight. 

Typically a young couple passes by a few streets away from school, however this time there was a new addition to this duo.

Walking a little slower in front of the couple plodded along a tortoise with a leash attached, 

Sheldon emblazoned on it. The couple looked smitten with their new companion, fawning and gushing over every step. 

As he marched by, young Kolya pondered the similarity between pets and children, the latter possibly being a gateway drug to the former. 

He thought about the shared dependency, the need to both nurture and admonish, the responsibility of something’s survival being entirely contingent on you. 

No doubt, the couple wouldn’t have to fret about childcare or where to send their tortoise to school, however, it did get him thinking about what one can deduce about how people will raise their children, based on how they rear their pets. 

He will enter the local park with eager eyes next time he goes there.
