Party Story
The Yerunda Political for People was born out of the Kite Flying Union in the Inner West of Sydney, from a time when Magpies were a persistent threat to penny farthing riders.
Legend has it that the founder, only known as The Idiot, due to their details being erased from official records, created the union after flying their kite into the sun and losing all their hair as a result. This prompted the first round of strikes and obstructing of cycleways across the city, as workers demanded safer conditions and subsidised cruise ship trips to Turkey to compensate for hair loss sustained on the job. A major win for the nascent union would be achieved in the mandating of a maximum kite rope length, so that flyers could no longer come into contact with the sun. Another key milestone included an agreement with the Avian union, whereby magpies would only terrorise cyclists from Mondays to Fridays, and thus the working week was born.
Later with the development of faster bicycles, helmets and air guns the industry collapsed and so did the union, along with briefly the local ecosystem. The Idiot would subsequently die after being struck by a stray cricket ball on a stormy night, flying a kite in darkness after being beset by a bout of madness. However, in their final act of lucidity The Idiot left with their dying breath a second act of creation that would stand as their greatest legacy.
‘The people, oh so many people, such sounds, such sights, oh how I wish I left the gas on….’
Those present quickly divined this as a call to form a political party and the Yerunda Party for People was born. With next to no numbers, influence, identity or political presence, the party set out to be a scourge for their rivals, who continue to deny that they’ve ever heard of them.
Founded on a lack of principles and with foundations as structurally sound as a tower in Pisa, the party has since gone into hiding having suspected that the current governing regime was intending to imprison them.
From the bush near Lithgow they have set to work writing their maxims and decrees in their online outlet Yerunda. Continuing to dream of one day overthrowing the authoritarian regime and tiny ant that has taken their home captive.
